The Hives

The Black And White Album
Label: Universal Music Group
Genre: Rock / Garage Punk
Sounds Like: The Subways meet The Strokes
Rating: 4 outta 5

Swedish garage punkers, The Hives, have come out with some erratic rock ‘n’ roll for everyone to enjoy on their fourth album, The Black And White Album. Listening to “You Got It All Wrong” sounds like it was written by a 25-year-old Indie rocker strung out on Ritalin in a jazzercise class – if that’s not good times, I don’t know what is. Pharrell joins the rockers in a song titled “T.H.E.H.I.V.E.S.” giving the song an almost disco sound.  “Hey Little World” features hand clapping and cowbell (I’ll spare you the played out SNL Christopher Walken reference). This album is all over the place – from piano to disco to doo-wop, it’s got it all – and I like it.
