Hectors Revenge

Hypnotically seductive vocals, well balanced tracks, exploding choruses, impressive and dramatic electric and bass guitar, this band is what you’d get if indie rock’s Cursive had a one night stand with Tool. Influences aside, Hectors Revenge is the real deal. Featured on 103.7 San Diego (97.1 Los Angeles) on the Frosty, Heidi and Frank show, this hard rock band proved it has definite radio appeal.  Appearing on “Should I Stay or Should I Go,” a segment of the show in which callers decide whether local bands should quit their musical pursuits or not, Hectors Revenge received a unanimous decision to “stay.”  An impressive seven out of seven callers encouraged them to keep on rocking. With hard rock blasting in the background and a beer freshly poured by a bartender with a mohawk spewing dreads, I caught up with these guys before a show at OB’s Dream Street Live.

Who is Hector and what is his best form of revenge? In Greek mythology, Hector was a Trojan prince and one of the greatest fighters in the Trojan War… to make a long story short, to us Hector represents a brave and chivalrous spirit whose best form of revenge is awareness. Who would your Trojan horse be intended for? The Oval Office. Favorite local venue? Probably have to say Belly Up Tavern in Solana. Describe your music as an acid trip. Out of control, but grounded in reality. So, what’s the message? As musicians, our product is our music. Some songs are about addiction, some are about politics. We even have a song about the INXS singer who died from auto-erotic asphyxiation. Basically, there is no single message and not everything is supposed to be taken literally. Whether our music inspires one person or a million people to form their own opinions and think on their own, then our job is validated.

Hectors Revenge will be battling in the Emergenza Music Festival San Diego Semifinals at 8:30 p.m. on March 29 at Brick by Brick (1130 Buenos Avenue, 92110).  Votes will be counted at the event, so come show your support for this local band. For a taste of Hectors Revenge go to their myspace page, www.myspace.com/hectorsrevenge. The band would like to thank Loren Laguens and Scott Sorenson with Dragon Alliance, Ivan Smith with Skater Socks, Bob and Rick with Mitsven Surfboards, and Scott Desi with Adio Shoes for all their help and support.
