Windansea - Friday, August 25, 2006
Ah, summertime in San Diego. It’s a classic time of year in SoCal, if not for the surf, than certainly for the lifestyle. Sure, the waves generally aren’t epic and the lineups are more crowded, but you can’t deny the beauty of warm water and long days. Even if you’re a slave to the nine to five grind, you can easily squeeze in two sessions a day. And, at least for a short period of time, you can leave the musty wetsuit at home and enjoy the surf the way it should be enjoyed – in boardshorts or a bikini – then celebrate with a BBQ and beers with your friends. It’s quintessential summer.
On this ideal August day, a combination of southwest groundswell and hurricane swell was making its way past most of San Diego, but just enough energy was sneaking into Windansea to show why it’s the classic summertime break. A playful a-frame splitting left and right through cobalt water to a white sand beach. With the rest of the county pulling in waist-high mush at best, of course it was crowded, but just being in the water made it worth the while.
What’s the best thing about summer? Fall is just around the corner.
