Ocean Beach - Thursday, October 26, 2006
A picture is worth a thousand words. I originally picked up a camera in order to better share my extraordinary experiences in the ocean and mountains with others. After years of returning from remote Colorado backcountry stashes and Baja point-breaks, going on and on about how epic it was, I began to feel as if my narratives were falling on deaf ears. I would feverishly recount how deep the powder was, or how absolutely perfect the waves were, and how I was the only one there to experience it. The responses were usually smiles and nods that thinly veiled a healthy amount of skepticism. I know, I react exactly the same way when someone tells me how good it was on such and such day at such and such place. How I missed an epic session. I can’t help but suspect at least a certain amount of embellishment.Well, I could go on to explain how good it was on this particular day at Ocean Beach. How, while everywhere else I checked in San Diego was struggling to pull in waist-high sets at best, OB was thumping with overhead drainers. I could go on for 782 more words about the off-shores and shacks, but without a photograph, I know you probably wouldn’t believe me anyway.
