The Wedge
Tuesday afternoon I got a call from my buddy who lives down south. He told me it was maxing out everywhere. With the swell peaking the next morning I got up and took off from Santa Barbara at 3:00am Wednesday morning and went straight to Newport Beach. Got there at sunrise and walked out to the Wedge. I've always wanted to shoot there just because it's such a unique wave. I was surprised how many surfers actually showed up. Usually it's just body boarders. I brought my 400mm with me, and shot from the side angle. The beach got more and more crowded as the morning went on, and by noon it was hard to get a good line of sight to the wave. The bigger sets of the day came through at sunrise, and after that it started to die off more and more. I was really lucky to have been able to get that sequence of the surfer actually making the wave. Aside from the photographer next to me, I think I was the only one who got that sequence. I was really happy I was there to capture that.
