Torrey Pines

December 12th, 2006 Torrey Pines. This image was captured during the first real swell of the winter. After an unremarkable summer and fall, the line-ups were packed. It’s usually a challenge to get any work done on this type of day because the surf-starved brain of pro athletes, or any committed wave-rider for that matter, can be difficult to reason with. But on this particular morning I was fortunate enough to get four of San Diego’s finest -- Justin McBride, Kyle Knox, Nick Jiampa, and Nick Kovack -- in the water at the same place, at the same time. The swell wasn’t perfect, it was a little mixed-up and disorganized, which isn’t ideal when your swimming, but some nice ones came through and we did manage to line a few up, including this one. – Josh Walker
