Surfing La Jolla 02/24/08
Well any surfers that happened to be out on Sunday evening were in a huge surprise. In what SD Lifeguards said was one of the fastest rise in swells, the surf literally went from chest high to 3x overhead in the matter of 30 - 60 minutes. Of course most spots in San Diego were closed out immediately. Although only the core locals knew exactly where to go and what boards to ride. 20 surfers braved this sudden and unpredictable swell until dark.. Its one thing to take off on 16 - 24 foot waves in perfect daylight, but after sunset in near dark is just some major cojones..
If you are wondering where this spot is.. Well.. If you run into a salty local named John Sax, and if he respects you enough, maybe he will let you know.
