Sunset Cliffs Menehune Surf Contest
On August 25th, 2007, the Sunset Cliffs Surfing Association once again hosted its annual Gromfest. Held at the north side of the Ocean Beach pier, the turn out was solid to say the least. According to some of the event organizers, nearly 100 stoked menehunes turned out for this annual contest. The Gromfest was held for menehunes, with divisions (both long and short board) for boys and girls ranging in age from 6 to 16.
The conditions for the event started out decent early on as the waves were breaking in the 2’-3’ range with light wind. Unfortunately as the day progressed and finals came around, the swell seemed to pick up somewhat, but so too did the wind, thus making the conditions challenging to say the least. Nonetheless, the contest went off without a hitch, and all of the participants involved seemed stoked, as they were treated to very fun day of surf, sun, grub, and raffle giveaways.
