Surfrider Foundation's Beach Clean Up
The San Diego Chapter of Surfrider, and San Diego Coastkeeper, coordinate cleanups two times a month.
On the second Saturday, we cleanup a North County San Diego beach (Oceanside to Torrey Pines), and on the fourth Saturday of every month we cleanup a beach in South County San Diego (La Jolla to Imperial Beach). To help out at an already coordinated cleanup, all you have to do is show up. For all beach cleanups, please wear comfortable clothes, closed toed shoes and sunscreen. We provide the gloves, bags, hand sanitizer and other essentials for cleaning up trash.
All volunteers are welcome to participate and must sign a liability waiver, but volunteers under 18 MUST have a parent or guardian, present at the beginning of the cleanup, sign the waiver before the minor can participate.
Waiver Form
Pre-registration is NOT required unless group is bigger than 25 people. If you, your business or school group of 25 people or more would like to coordinate a cleanup at your favorite beach on a day other than our Saturday cleanups we would love to help! We will 'show you the ropes' on how to run a successful cleanup!! Please contact us with the following information: the date, location and time you would like to have your cleanup, plus the number of people you expect to show up.
Weather--if it is lightly raining, we will have the cleanup. If there are heavy rains, the cleanup will be canceled.
Unless otherwise noted, all cleanups start at 9am and last about 2 hours, depending on how many people show up.
Our beach cleanups are supported by the Joe Cayan Beach Cleanup Memorial Fund.
Three beach cleanups this month!
On Saturday, October 13th we will be at Torrey Pines State Beach (meet at the lifeguard tower by the south parking lot) and Ocean Beach (meet at Dog Beach).
On Saturday, October 27th we will host a cleanup at Belmont Park in Mission Beach (meet on the grassy area by the beach, south of the roller coaster).
