Rain amounts this morning were less than 0.2” and a GENERAL ADVISORY for all coastal waters has not been issued. However, field observations indicate localized contamination near some storm drain and river outlets is likely. Go to www.beaches911.org to see a map of locations that may be impacted by runoff flows. In addition, signs warning of contaminated water are posted at the following locations:
Closures: These beaches are closed to water contact due to sewage spills that may impact recreational waters. (none)
Advisories: Water contact should be avoided at the following beaches due to bacterial levels that exceed health standards:
La Jolla

Reason: bacterial levels exceed health standards. Enterococci and Fecal coliform SSM

Bold – exceeds state standard by 1 magnitude
For beaches next to storm drains, rivers, and lagoon outlets:
Avoid contact with runoff from these outlets and ocean waters within at least 75 feet from where runoff enters ocean waters during dry weather. An epidemiological study has correlated urban runoff to an increased risk of illness among ocean users near these outlets.

Re-opened: Field measurements indicate these waters are now safe for recreational use. Signs have been removed at the following locations: Cardiff State Beach, Encinitas. Station: San Elijo Lagoon outlet. Since. Oct 14
Shellfish Quarantine. There is quarantine on mussel consumption due to risk of PSP or domoic acid poisoning for mussels taken from all coastal waters in California. For more information on the shellfish quarantine call 800-553-4133.
