Editorial Internship - SurfShot Magazine
Journalism Internship - Summer 2006 - SurfShot Magazine
We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Chief Financial Officer to join the senior management team in our San Diego headquarters.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Managing/Overseeing all financial activities of the organization
- Developing strategic business plans and financial forecasts relating to financial management.
- Developing/maintaining organization's financial management policies, ensuring compliance with applicable law and Board policy.
- Present company's financial reports to shareholders, analysts, and potential investors.
- Demonstrating leadership through the process of finding investors.
- Managing the forecasting and budget processes.
- Overseeing all aspects of company financial controls.
- Managing audit functions; money management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MBA, CPA - required
- 5+ years experience as CFO
- Strong background in the media and Internet space
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- Be very comfortable in a small, dynamic, expansion-oriented business. An entrepreneurial spirit is desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cultivating, maintaining and expanding new prospective business client base.
- Generate sales in assigned territory through direct contact, networking, client visits, market events, and "partnership " agreements.
- Work closely with Publisher and Marketing Director to cover all accounts and business strategies.
- Understanding customers' marketing goals and objectives.
- Consultant to customers, offering solutions for the efficient preparation and delivery of promotional marketing to businesses - to include postal, e-mail, and ancillary services in both physical and digital form.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years previous successful sales experiences with B-to-B, direct marketing and/or publishing or media company.
- Working knowledge of surf and action sports industry.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and ACT and File Maker a plus.
- Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills are mandatory.
- Strong organizational and time management skills are a must.
- Proven presentation skills are required.
- Independent, self-starter with the ability to lead successfully in a team environment.

Surf Reporters
SurfShot is hiring new surf report photographers to cover the coastal area from Oceanside to South San Diego. If this is a position that is of interest to you, please email your resume to jobs@surfshot.com.
Candidates for the available positions will be interviewed and selected within the next two weeks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive to the different beaches specified in your assigned region, taking pictures and shooting short videos of the day's surf conditions.
- Upload photos and content to the SurfShot.com server.
- Describe, in understandable English, the current surf conditions.
- Provide timely and descriptive updates to surf reports.
- Maintain a high standard of quality in one's work consistent with SurfShot Media's expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic Internet and computer skills.
- Own a car with valid registration and insurance.
- Own a digital camera: at least 3.2 Mega pixels, with at least 8X optical zoom.
- Own a cell phone.
- High speed Internet connection at home.
Editorial Internship - SurfShot Magazine
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Any candidate for the position should possess a flexibility of schedule that allows for a contribution of anywhere from 10 to 20 hours per week. This internship is unpaid, but interns can and will receive transferable college credit if applicable. Our headquarters are in Bay Park just off the Clairemont Drive exit east of I-5.You will be working closely with SurfShot's editorial team. You will be editing the drafted copies of features/columns/departments for proof. From a logistical standpoint, you will be involved on multiple levels of the editorial process. This is an editorial position, and because we work with design, photography, layout, and staff writers, any potential candidate should possess (or complete by the end of the 2006 academic year) a degree in Journalism or Communication. We are not looking for photographers or designers to fill this position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Necessary Skills
-Must possess strong writing, reporting, and editing skills.
-At least two years of a college education completed.
-Work well within group settings.
-Strong Project Management awareness. Able to meet deadlines.
-Proactive individual who is well versed in magazine editorial and production processes. Industry knowledge is a strongpoint but not essential.
-Great communicator, with emphasis on interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills
-Work experience or history with print or online publications.
-Minimal on the job training.
-Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Photoshop.
-Excellent organizational skills and meticulous eye for detail.

SurfShot Magazine is looking for interns for the fast approaching SUMMER of 2006. Our ideal candidate should be able to start immediately. This internship is unpaid, but interns can and will receive transferable college credit if applicable. Our headquarters are in Bay Park just off the Clairemont Drive exit east of I-5. Fluent computer skills are mandatory. A working knowledge of Apple Computers, Microsoft Office & Xcel, HTML, and Photoshop are a plus.
SurfShot is looking for driven, capable, proactive individuals interested in obtaining hands on knowledge of what it takes to get a magazine out every month. From reporting and photo selection to layout and design, interns will gain an intimate knowledge of the magazine production process. Knowledge of the surf community here in San Diego and the industry at large is a MUST. This is an editorial internship, and because we work with design, photography and layout, our ideal candidate should possess or be working on a degree with an emphasis on writing and editing. We are not looking for photographers or designers to fill this position.
