Ultimate Sessions - surf movie

Ultimate Sessions, the latest surf film from producer Ira Opper, will premiere Thursday, June 22 at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla. The premiere, presented by radio 91X and hosted by 2006 XXL Big Wave winner Brad Gerlach, will feature screenings at 7pm and 9pm, as well as a raffle, to benefit the Surfrider Foundation.

Ultimate Sessions is a collection of ten historical surf sessions from the most celebrated surf films of the last 30 years. Beginning with Hal Jepsen’s first film, Cosmic Children, and culminating with scenes from Jack Johnson’s award-winning September Sessions, Opper and writer Matt Warshaw (Encyclopedia of Surfing) searched through three decades of surf cinema to create a collection of the best surfing moments ever caught on film.

"Ultimate Sessions is an anthology of the evolution of both the surf film and surfing itself," said Opper. "I would like the audience to leave the theater experiencing the sports most incredible sessions from the shortboard revolution to the end of the 20th Century."

In addition to original footage from such films as Morning of the Earth and Free Ride, recent interviews of the featured surfers and filmmakers provide viewers a behind the scenes back story to these "ultimate sessions."

The raffle will be held at both screenings and prizes will include new surfboards from Novak and Op. The event will be held at the museum’s Sherwood Auditorium, located at 700 Prospect St. in downtown La Jolla. Tickets will be $10.00.
