5th Annual Pacific Beach Longboard Classic
5th Annual Pacific Beach Longboard Classicby Matt Skinner
The Pacific Beach Surf Club hosted their 5th Annual Pacific Beach Longboard Classic. Sponsored by local award-winning microbrewery Karl Strauss, the event was held at Tourmaline in conditions that are far from optimal for a day at the beach. However, the bad weather did not deter competitors and spectators from enjoying the competition.
President of the Pacific Beach Surf Club Tim Fields explained that there were four objectives for hosting the Longboard Classic. These include a surf contest in a fun atmosphere, raising money for charity, fundraising for the surf club itself, and last but not least, to have a good time. The event raised $2500 for Multiple Sclerosis and also featured a raffle that included some sweet boards for winners.
The Pacific Beach Surf Club has been in existence for eight years and currently has over 100 members. It is a part of the Coalition of Surfing Clubs, which includes over 50 surf clubs worldwide, 33 of which are located on the West Coast. The Pacific Beach Surf Club hosts their Pacific Beach Longboard Classic every summer at Tourmaline and contributes to the community by hosting this fun event that helps raise money for charity. Results from the contest are posted below.
