Surfer Challenge
I challenge every fellow surfer to be in Sacramento on June 21st to tell legislators to protect our world-class surf at Trestles Beach.
If you have ever been to Trestles, you are familiar with this sacred spot for surfers. But did you know that Trestles Beach and its surf are threatened by the proposed Foothill-South (241) Toll Road? This toll road would connect to the 5 freeway over the San Mateo Creek, a creek that flows directly to Trestles Beach. Imagine runoff and pollutants from thousands of cars and trucks dumping into the creek, polluting it and devastating our surf. And as if that isn't bad enough, the toll road builders have refused to even consider how their road could impact the flow of the creek and alter the shape of Trestles famous surf-breaks.
Trestles is known around the world as the "Yosemite of Surfing" and it's the only north american stop on the world surfing tour. It's up to us to stop the toll road and protect this beach. Check out http://www.sierraclub.org/ca/coasts/surfer_challenge.PDF for our cool invitation to this event and plan to join us in Sacramento on June 21st. Because if surfers don't save Trestles, who will?
