Sacred Craft Surfboard Expo adding vintage road show
Vintage Surfboard Road Show, seminars & exhibits hit 3rd annual Sacred Craft Consumer Surfboard Expo
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 August, 2009 : - - Del Mar -- Surfers, surfboard manufacturers and surfboard lovers will descend on the Del Mar Fairgrounds October 10 & 11, for the 3rd annual Sacred Craft Consumer Surfboard Expo at Del Mar.
In addition to hundreds of incredible surfboards on display and the
Tribute to the Masters Shape-off honoring Dick Brewer; a panel of
experts, including Steve Pezman, publisher of The Surfers Journal, surf
historian/writer Sam George, and Surfing Heritage Foundation curator
Barry Haun, will appraise vintage, collectable surfboards during the
Sacred Craft Consumer Surfboard Expo. The 'antique road show' type of
event will take place on Saturday Oct 10, from 10am to 1pm.
"If
you have an old board, something older than say 1985, that you think
may hold some value, above and beyond an average surfboard; if you
possess a "collector" board, but you've never had it appraised, this
will be an opportunity for you to get handle on the possible value,"
explained Expo director Scott Bass.
"Randy Rarick did something very similar at his Hawaiian Island Vintage Surf Auction, and some really incredible boards came out of the woodwork. An 'antique road show' appraisal event makes a lot sense here on the mainland. We're urging the public to bring out their special boards for appraisal by our experts."
Highlights of this year's seminars are: Swaylockian Lee Vanderhurst headlines with a series of insightful, entertaining and provocative seminars brought to you by Bubble Gum Surf Wax. Vanderhurst presents "The Idiot's Guide to Surfboard Design." A multi-media, hands-on guide to the basics of surfboard design from outline to rocker, flex to swallowtail--how to measure it and what it does. Now you'll know how your surfboard will ride before you catch the first wave.
Lee Vanderhurst has spent 45 years surfing everything from mats to balsa guns and has shaped most of his own boards. He is a self-professed know-it-all and former moderator at Swaylocks.com. The Groundswell Society's Glenn Hening, veteran surfer and Society co-founder, presents on the secrets behind the naturally efficient designs essentially un-changed for 35 million years.
Also on tap Ned McMahon from Malama Composites discusses the
renewable surfboard - We're Getting Closer!; Whitney Guild discusses
the importance of volume and demonstrates his volume tank .
Additional seminars are in the work s and will be posted at
