The Surfrider Foundation Earth Day Celebration
SURF FILM PREMIER TO BENEFIT SURFRIDER FOUNDATIONšS EFFORT TO SAVE CARDIFFREEF
The Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla hosted the premiere of Opper Sports Productions newest video "Wordz" on Monday night, April 22nd. Hosted
by local star Rob Machado, there was scarcely an open seat at the Surfrider Foundation benefit. San Diego surfers and surf fans came out of the woodworks to see the film and to support Surfrider's efforts to save Cardiff reef from
a proposed sea wall.
In addition to the showing of "Wordz", the evening featured entertainment from an acoustic guitar duo, an exciting raffle that included many awesome donated prizes, and an auction featuring three gorgeous surfboards-a Joel Tudor 6'4" model that the supreme stylist himself has ridden, a Colin McPhillips pro longboard shaped by Stewart Surfboards, and a beautiful longboard shaped by Donald Takayama. The raffle and auction also supported Surfrider.
The film itself is an impressive display of cinematography, editing, and pure surfing talent. Throughout the showing those in attendance would express their stoke at seeing some incredible performances by pros and especially their favorite hometown San Diego surfers. Some sections in the film that would particularly appeal to San Diegans include those of Joel Tudor, Colin McPhillips, the now standard women section, and Swami's. This video/DVD is definently worth a viewing by anyone who wants to get stoked on surfing. Who knows-it may even get you excited enough to battle with the ankle slappers that have been rolling through San Diego recently.
