The Grom Project presents surf movie and bbq.

On Friday, January 31, the Grom Project will present a barbecue buffet and a special showing of Poor Specimenıs surf movie, "The Show," from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Big Jimıs Old South BAR-B-Q. Big Jimıs is located at 190 North Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas.

The much-anticipated DVD release of "The Show" features surfers like Kalani Robb, Rob Machado, Taylor Knox, Benji Weatherly, Greg Browning, Kelly Slater and Shane Dorian. There will be pros at the event to hang out with and to sign autographs, but weıre not telling who just yet!

Also debuting will be the BrainTeaser match, the first in a series of Grom Project-affiliated trivia competitions that will culminate in a championship game at the end of the year. A plethora of product from Grom Project sponsors will be given for correct answers to trivia questions.

This event is the first in the Grom Project Video Launch Event Series. The Video Series will appear in various locations along the San Diego and North County coast. "Right now, kids have lots of stuff to do during the day, but when it gets dark all they have is the mall, TV or video games," according to Grom Project founder Kim Hellman. "We want to bring the groms up close and personal with the athletes they look up to. We are creating an incredible network of existing and original events and programming that the kids are going nuts over!"

The growing list of sponsors includes: Poor Specimen, Cobian, Surfstoreonline.com, Gravity, Surfrider Foundation, Hurley International, USSF Western Region Surfing Association, Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), Boarding for Breast Cancer, Bulldog Skateboards, Surfshot.com, Sequence Skateboards, California Surf Museum and Re-Define Records.

The $5 admission includes a barbecue buffet, a viewing of "The Show," and chances to win tons of door prizes. For more information on this event and the Grom Project, call (858) 205-GROM (4766), or visit www.gromproject.org.
