A beautiful event

By Matthew Ficco

The 10th Annual Surfrider Foundation OB Pier Paddle was another huge success. Hundreds of Surfers gathered for the 9am paddle out to show their support for the foundation and express their enthusiasm to keep San Diego beaches clean.

Many sponsors were on hand to help make the event as successful as it was. There was live music and breakfast to start the morning. Friends and fellow surfers gathered to hear a pep talk from Donna Frye and Marco Gonzales followed immediately by the commencement of the paddle.

The paddle consisted of a zigzag loop around and under the pier. Surfers were cheering and howling as they passed by the pink capped guides who greeting every surfer as they passed by. Ending the paddle was a treat to all as they were able to catch sweet waves to the beach.

The morning ended with high spirits and fun for all the participants and spectators of another great event that the San Diego chapter of the Surfrider Foundation organized. Congratulations to everyone who participated!
