Join scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, in their quest to understand Earth's climate system, at the Birch Aquarium's newest interactive exhibit, Feeling the Heat: The Climate Challenge, opening May 19, 2007.
Visit the Birch Aquarium and discover what changes global warming is causing to our planet and how your life will be impacted. This new exhibit is family-friendly and engages visitors of all ages through exciting and interactive activities.
Exhibit Highlights
- Enter the Heat Signature Gallery and view stunning imagery from locations around the globe, providing insight into startling environmental changes under way.
- Explore how scientists track temperature on a global scale and monitor the effects of climate change.
- Discover California 2050, a fast-forward glimpse of projected environmental conditions in the Golden State in the year 2050.
- Experiment with the greenhouse effect.
- Learn why the ocean is considered the "wild card" in climate change.
- Calculate your contribution to climate warming and compare the latest ideas for reducing carbon emissions through emerging, sustainable technologies.
Interactive displays and multimedia experiences will help to convey the dramatic changes taking place regionally and throughout the world.
Feeling the Heat: The Climate Challenge will present the science of global warming, highlight Scripps's half-century commitment to studying climate change, and will provide visitors the opportunity to become informed on the changes occurring now and those projected for the future. It's not too late to slow climate change, but this will require immediate action by governments, corporations and individuals worldwide.
