California Surf Museum's New Façade to Light on December 4 – Former Editor/Publisher of Surfer Ma

Thursday, December 4, at 5:00 p.m.,
Oceanside City Council will turn on the façade lights for the first
time at the California Surf Museum's soon-to-be new home at 312 Pier
View Way. City staff, California Surf Museum Board of Directors and
staff, building architect and contractors will also be present at this
milestone event.

The building façade and interior, designed by architect and CSM
Advisor Louise Ravera Balma of Oceanside, is being built by DLS
Contractors, Orange County. The signs have been fabricated by Ford
Signs of Oceanside.

DLS will be finishing up its work on the city-owned building by the
end of the year. CSM will begin building out the interior displays and
other finishing details after the first of the year, with plans to
open the doors for business by early Spring 2009.

Also on December 4, from 4:30-7:00 p.m., the CSM will host author Jim
Kempton at its new home. Kempton will sign his new book, Surfing the
Manual: Advanced. This groundbreaking guide to advanced surfing
techniques provides a unique look at the history of surfing though the
sports progression in performance. Profits will benefit the CSM.

Kempton is the former editor and publisher of Surfer magazine and
current Vice President of CSM. He has compiled an innovative
instructional guide for intermediate and advanced surfers seeking to
improve their skills. Incorporating interviews from more than 50 of
the most recognized names in professional surfing, the 336-page book
covers every aspect of the sport that many consider an art form.
Step-by-step photographic sequences matched with intuitive training
captions display each maneuver in detail. The text features some 600
images drawn from the archives of respected surf photographers Jeff
Divine and Tom Servais.
