5th Annual Huntington Beach Surf Theatre Film Festival
Big Red Productions, Inc is stoked to announce a new competitive format and call for entries for the 5th Annual Huntington Beach Surf Theatre Film Festival taking place during the US Open of Surfing
July 21st -25th 2007 at Pierside Surf City 6 Cinemas.
Continuing with the neo-tradition of “Roasting” Tributes at the festival; this year’s honoree will be Robert August. Moderated by Wingnut, this Roast is sure to be a hilarious “tell-all” with an all-star Roaster line-up to be announced soon.
Big Red Productions has brought the best surf films to the big screen for 5 years, the addition of awards to the Surf Theatre Film Festival is a natural progression given the caliber of surf films has risen greatly; which is due to the dedication of the filmmakers, the surfers and the industry that backs them. Big Red Productions is recognizing these efforts by awarding the following categories:
Best Corpo Video
Best Independent Filmmaker
Most Innovative
Hot Grom Short (under 15 Minutes)
A diverse panel of surf film experts, journalists and Hollywood producers will judge the films based on the following criteria:
- Film has been completed between Aug 1st, 2006 and July 1st 2007
- Best Corpo Award: This will be a "Perpetual Trophy" for the ultimate bragging rights. The film is funded by a major surf brand
- Best Independent Film: 80% of funding must come from sources other than the above.
- Most Innovative: this is a very open category that is the at discretion of the judges, it may apply to editing, performance, music, style, format or any other creative outlet which makes a film stand out from the others.
- Hot Grom Short: this is for all those groms who film their friends and create a homemade video.
Must be under 18 years old and the film can be no longer than 15 minutes long.
Over the years, Big Red Productions has enjoyed working with all of the major brands, and has kept a non-biased approach to Surf Theatre, in that spirit and to remain fair, we are not accepting cash sponsorships from endemic brands for the Huntington Beach Surf Theatre Film Festival. We only accept sponsorships from appropriate companies whose support will not influence the outcome of the awards.
