Gromfest Surfing Contest and BBQ
On Saturday August 25, 2007, the Sunset Cliffs Surfing Association (SCSA) will host the 4th annual Gromfest surfing contest.
The contest will be held next to the Ocean Beach Pier starting at 7:00AM and is an opportunity for boys and girls ages 6-16 to show off their surfing skills to their friends and neighbors in an easy going contest format.
The Gromfest has grown considerably since it’s inception with over 100 kids competing this year for trophies in both kneeboard and standup surfing categories.
Following the competition, a barbecue will be held for all participants and families.
Several Ocean Beach and Point Loma businesses generously provided cash and prizes to support the contest and barbecue. The Gromfest contest name is derived from the word “Grommet” or “Grom” for short which older surfers use to describe young and upcoming surfing kids. In support of giving back to the community, all participants will contribute in a beach and boardwalk cleanup picking up assorted trash and debris.
It is the intent of the SCSA to teach and instill environmental awareness and a sense of the “Aloha Spirit” to the youth of Ocean Beach and Point Loma. Mor Furniture for Less is the generous primary sponsor for the event.
