SOCAL Outrigger Canoe Long Distance Ironman Championship Outrigger Race
In the beggining, Jimmy Ako, Alejo Hao, and Greg Nee founded Kai Elua Outrigger Canoe Club in 1978. Kai Elua's objective is to encourage the study of Polynesian culture and to maintain and perpetuate outrigger canoe racing. Through the years Kai Elua's membership and equipment reserves have grown; they now have over 100 members and eight canoes!
Each year Kai Elua makes it their mission to take The Southern California Outrigger Ironman Championships to a new level of professionalism, competition, expression and last but not least fun.
This year they will produce the third edition of the Ironman Championships Race Magazine which will express the timelessness of the sport through the articulation of its roots and the significance of its principles and ideals in our society today.
