CSUS Surfabout West
CSUS Surfabout West presented by Surfride wraps up its 2004/05 Surfing Competition Series
By Chris Williams
The Championship event for the CSUS Surfabout West went off at Oceanside Harbor with fun 3'-5' surf and sunny skies throughout the day. For over 10 years the final event has served as a way to bring all the competitors together for a final competition and a family-style awards ceremony. This year was great on both fronts as the action in the water was epic with a classic battle in the Men's Open division between Bobby Morris of Santa Barbara and John Daniels of Oceanside, the series' points leaders vying for the divisional crown. In the end Bobby Morris pulled out the victory for the contest and season.
The evening's festivities included an awards ceremony and dinner banquet, surf movie premiere of "Noah's Arc" and trophy presentation for the top competitors. Special guest and pro surfer Matt Beacham (also a featured surfer in the "Noah's Arc" movie) was on hand to share some wise words about how God has touched his life. He encouraged all aspiring young surfers to stay focused on pleasing the Lord and not the "cool crowd". CS event guys, John Lindsley and Chris Williams handed out a ton of prizes from our faithful sponsors, as well as trophies. After Many hugs and a surf story or two the night and the CSUS season was officially wrapped up.
