Robert August Winery

Robert August, an American surfing legend & star of the definitive surf films-The Endless Summer (1966) & The Endless Summer II (1994), still today rank as two of the top three all time surf movies & best sellers for Amazon & Costco.

Robert August has built a successful career promoting his love for surfing and has reached icon status with those who share his passion. His passion for fine wine has led to a joint venture with the winemaking legend Dennis Hill.

The 2005 Robert August Merlot was sourced from the prestigious Edna Valley. The cool climate of this coastal appellation allowed for slower ripening, darker color, structure and character.
A rich, earthy Syrah from the Arroyo Secoappellation was included to the blend to add weight in the mid-palette.
The wine was aged with French Oak for 4 months and bottled in August of 2006.
Nose: Bright red fruit, spice of cinnamon clove, cherry, French oakMouth: Full body, big, robust, dried cherry, dark red berry, core oftexture with a smooth finishPairing: All red sauces, grilled red meats, and mild cheeses.Vintage: 2005VarietalContent: 78% Merlot, 22% SyrahGrape Source: Edna Valley, Arroyo GrandeAlcohol: 13.6% by volumeProduction: 2,500 cases (9L)

The 2006 Pinot Grigiowas sourced mainly from Monterey, a region known for it's outstanding Pinot Grigio. The warm days are offset with cool maritime influences from the bay, the Pacific, and that famous fog.
The fruit from this region is characterized by the mineral and grapefruit notes that produce a clean, crisp Pinot Grigio. The sauvignon blanc from this vintage added acidity and richness without overpowering the subtle nuances of the Pinot Grigio. The blend exceeded my very high expectations.
Nose: Mineral, stone, light citrus, hints of pineapple, mango, andtropical fruitsMouth: Clean, crisp, apple and grapefruit with light pear notesPairing: Lighter fare, sushi, dry cheeses, and sunshine.Vintage: 2006VarietalContent: 76% Pinot Grigio, 24% Sauvignon BlancGrape Source: Monterey County, Central Coast, Contra CostaAlcohol: 12.9% by volumeProduction: 1,700 cases (9L)
