Wave Riders Surf Team wins Girls Longboard State Title!
Wow, what a great weekend for the Wave Riders middle school surf team! The surf was as good as it gets for a contest (all day). Our very own girls longboard team; Marisa and Kelly did nothing but clean house. They dominated the state’s best finishing with a 1st place team award for the divisional state title. The 2 girls both surfed their way into the finals and finished 3rd (Marisa) and 6th (Kelly) in the championship longboard finals. This performance gave the girls top honors in the state with 26 total points on the day. This was huge. A rare achievement over any other title anywhere!.....Also, Marisa powered thru 7 heats on the day and ended up 4th overall in the girls short board. The determination and heat management timing skills helped Marisa carve up the state finals. A gigantic congratulations to our girls!!!! Keep in mind these girls are 7th graders and will be back!
Competing in the boys division was Colin Andrews. He surfed against the best in the state and had fun doing it. Colin went down in the first round, but gained some valuable experience for the future. Great job Colin! And thanks for being there supporting the girls - that was cool...
That's not all! Results for the team for the ISF season (San Diego section) are as follows; 3rd place team title for girls longboard was awarded to the team for 5 contest series performances. Great surfing all season from Kelly and Marisa (Marisa made 9 of 10 finals on the season)! We also dominated in the girl’s short board division and received the 1st place girl’s short board title for the San Diego section. This was just as big! Congratulations go out to Marisa, Hannah, Kelly and Jade! All of whom surfed short board throughout the season. You girls ruled! These team rankings were calculated amongst the eleven schools who participated in the San Diego section.
I almost forgot, I won the coaches heat for longboard, it was a late in the day heat! But was much more excited for our girls...
It was a very rewarding and exciting season that exceeded all expectations. I Look forward to next season - coming in September. Thanks to all the parents whom took great interest in delivering the surfers to practice and the contest, you all stepped up big! A special thanks go out to Colleen and Michelle for stepping it up, Also a special thanks go to Lou and Pac Shore funding for there backing and support!
