Simpson reflects on big win

As the whole surfing world is now aware, you came out on top this year at the Hurley US Open.  How's it feel to snag an underdog victory, beat out guys like Machado and Slater, and if those two weren't enough, add 100 grand to your checking account?

Haha, ya! I feels as it was a long time coming though! It defiantly was a goal of mine this year to win an event, it didnt really matter were and to have won the one in my backyard with such a great cast of talent was just the icing on the cake!! Then to have the highest prize money to date is amazing!


The waves that day were all time for the Open, and surf comps in general.  How do you think that figured into your win and everyone else's placings that day?

 I am just soo comfortable out there on any given day so i think it definatly played a huge role in my campaign in the whole event! I was comfortable out there from 2 foot to 10 foot and living around here i knew what the waves dop when it gets bigger and i think for alot of guys it was prolly the biggest they have seen it!!


So what're you gonna do with the hundred grand?  Got any trips planned?  Cars to buy?  Women to woo?

Well just hanging right now, definatly gonna throw some money into my condo i purchased a few years ago and hopefully have a couple bucks to throw around for some fun money!!!


How's it been working with Ian Cairns?  In what ways have you noticed you're surfing mature or change in any big ways while under his tutelage?

Hes been an amazing addition to my carreer in the past 2 years! Just has made my act more professional and has took my competition skills to the next step! Its been awesome working with Kanga!


Now that you're ranked 5th in the QS, it looks like you'll qualify this year.  If so, what changes do you expect to have in your career and personal life?  In other words, where will this major achievement place in your life aspirations?

Its definately the biggest achievment close to my grasp, just gonna keep chugging away at this and then when the time comes gear up for some bigger better things for the CT!
