Quick Q+A with Kassia Meador, Roxy Jam
By Chad Robinson
CR: What spots have you been surfing at home in Oceanside?
KM: The Harbor, both North and South jetty. I've also been surfing Oceanside Blvd.
CR: What sort of activities out of the water do you do that help with your surfing?
KM: I do some core-strengthening, but no ballet or anything like that. The best way to get better at surfing is to surf.
CR: Tell me about your relationship with your shaper Donald Takayama.
KM: He is the best ever. I only ride Takayama's. I've been riding for him since I was seventeen; he's like family. I have two signature models that he shapes: a lightweight nose-rider and a high-performance model. I've been doing this long enough that I know what I like in my boards.
CR: Besides longboards, what other sort of boards do you ride?
KM: I ride lots of different shapes. I have a couple Rich Pavel fishes and a John Beleck quad-fin.
CR: Will you be appearing in any upcoming films?
KM: Yes, I'll be in the new Thomas Campbell project, "The Present". You'll also be seeing me in Tiffany Campbell's "Dear and Yonder." I play a bigger part in Tiffany's movie since it's all about female surfers.
CR: Who are some surfers that inspire you with their surfing?
KM: Rob Machado, Lisa Anderson, CJ Nelson and Joel Tudor.
CR: Tell me about the beach clean-up you guys did at Cardiff.
KM: Well, since we're using the beach for the contest we decided to give something back by cleaning up the trash on the beach. Me and a bunch of other Roxy team girls went out and had a blast picking up all the trash. Every time I go surfing I pick up any trash I see in the water or on the sand. If everyone just picked up one piece of trash each time they went out it would make a huge difference!
CR: How long can you go without surfing before it starts to affect you?
KM: 48 hours. That's it, two days. After that things start to get crazy!
