ASR San Diego September 7-9th

Parties/ Shows The Fun Stuff
Last year RVCA hosted their bash at the San Diego Harbor. Mickey Avalon and The Japanese Motors premiered.
The Vice Magazine Party is arguably the “it” party (perhaps the only one that “matters”).  Do you read the magazine? Says Me, it’s one of the cleverest publications running (besides Surfshot, of course).  However, due to San Diego’s conservative party protocol, last year’s Vice shindig lasted only a few hours.

Art shows and installations
Last year, in cooperation with the Glue Network, artists from Jedidiah, Quicksilver, Atticus, Etnies Girl, and Sessions contributed to an 8’ x 32’ mural. It was part of the Bridge project.  The live mural was designed to bring social awareness and support social causes like SurfAid International by Glue.
The Glue Network, started in 2005 for a fundraiser inspired by the AIDS epidemic in Africa, is an organization created to “connect people with a passion for making a difference.” Through the Glue Network, Non-profit organizations, artists, musicians, brands and young people can come together and create a network for social causes.
The Bridge mural created in 2006 was “glued” or painted together by artists as part of the larger online Bridge project to affect change and create hope. Some artists involved in the glue network include: Bunny Kitty Aka Persue, Matt Gordon, Teena Carlos, Berto H, Kelsey Brooke and Timothy McCormick.
In the last couple of years, the Voice 1156 gallery, has created a presence downtown bringing quality art shows especially around ASR.  Shepard Fairy’s Obey and Neck Face have been notable artists exhibited.

Agenda
Across San Diego Harbor Drive -- directly in front of ASR’s mammoth sized convention center -- will be a limousine waiting to whip various ASR attendees to Agenda.  The Agenda Tradeshow brings the champagne to the action sports industry -- where ASR often leaves you with a half cup of stale beer.
The Agenda Show is a smaller, intimate space. It’s an exhibit for buyers to experience and not be intimidated by oversized booths and tomfoolery.  Agenda exhibitors range from back of the trunk designers with forthcoming talent to the established elite showcasing lines. The idea is to cater to people who want a higher level of design from fashion forward companies—opposed to cookie-cutter formulas from the corporate folks.
To name a few, brands exhibiting this year include Obey, Insight, WeSC, Ubiquity, Imaginary Foundation, RVCA, 55DSL and Boxfresh.

ASR Green Movement
On its 5th consecutive year to make a shift to the green movement, ASR has teamed up with 3 Phases Energy to put out a 100% wind powered event. The environmental efforts include sustainable event production efforts, special events to raising awareness, and recyclable and organic product lines.
ASR is offering green options such as recycled carpeting and booth displays made of Fibrex, stuff made from wood fiber rather than petroleum-based products.  Recyclable products will be used for badges, show bags and recyclable carpeting in the aisles.
This year the Glue Network will present Green 4 Green, in partnership with ASEC, the Action Sports Environmental Coalition.
Our favorite heartthrob, Leonardo Di Caprio, will be buzzing this ASR for his feature in the highly anticipated environmental documentary film, “The 11th Hour.”  On Saturday, a special screening of the film will take place and soon after the Executive Producer and Founder and CEO of Sole Technology (parent company to Etnies, Es, and Emerica) Pierre André Senizergues, leads a Q&A.
