A quick scan of this compilation’s track list (i.e. “Straight Up,” “Say My Name” and “Sugar, We’re Going Down”) and you may mistake it for a NOW Top 40 release. But instead of Paula Abdul, Destiny’s Child and Fall Out Boy, Guilt By Association features various indie artists giving the Billboard retirees an unrecognizable spin. Contributions range from Casey Shea’s folksy acoustic rendition of System of a Down’s anarchic “Chop Suey” to the punk scruff of Mike Watt paying homage to the Blue Oyster Cult’s “Burnin’ For You.” Expect the unexpected.
