Mixed Tape
Mixed Tape documents Bobby Martinez’ journey from amateur phenom who won seven NSSA Nationals titles to his successful 2006 WCT season in which he placed fifth overall and was named Rookie of the Year.Surfing Quality-4.5 out of 5-Bobby didn’t finish in fifth place in 2006 by having anything other than amazing surfing ability. As one of the Hobgoods said in the movie, “It is seriously hard to find flaws in his game.”
Style-4 out of 5-Mixed Tape is a nice combination of good surfing by Bobby and friends and short interviews about Bobby’s progression onto the international stage.
Waves-4.5 out of 5-Other than contest footage from some of Bobby’s best 2006 performances, the Reef team travels to Bali, Australia, Hawaii, and Europe to add to footage from Santa Barbara and Ventura.
Music-3.5 out of 5-There’s some hip-hop from 2Pac, but most of the music is newer rock from The Sleeping, Silversun Pickups, Bloc Party, and AFI. There is also some slower stuff from The Newton Brothers.
