Ocean Beach’s Slightly Stoopid has released their latest hip-hop reggae fusion, called Chronchitis. The group hasn’t bothered to rewrite the book when it comes to laidback stoner rock. Their fifth album, Chronchitis, still has a D.I.Y. feel to it but lacks any thread of punk influence seen in earlier Stoopid albums.  Has all surf rock begun to sound the same? Chronchitis is a mesh of cheesy synthesizer, horns and sticky Cali weed.  Mellower than Pepper, Sublime’s little cousin… the white Marley Brothers perhaps? No – it’s just Slightly Stoopid. If you suddenly have an impulse to take to the desert while dropping acid, make sure you listen to the track titled “Above The Clouds” as you drive down the 8 East looking for a good time.
