Everything you need to know about Wave Pools in under: 60 SECONDS

1934: The Wembley Swimming Pool opens in London, England to become the world’s first wave pool. It clocked in at 200 feet by 60 feet, and featured ankle slappers created by a submerged paddle wheel.
1966: Summerland wave pool close to Tokyo is the first wave pool in the world to be surfed.
1969: The goliath 300-foot-by-400-foot Big Surf wave pool debuts in Tempe, Arizona. The pool produced chest-high waves and was the king of wave pools in its day.
1985: Tom Carroll wins the 1985 World Professional Inland Surfing Championships, the first pro tour wave pool contest, at the Dorney Park Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
1991: Tom Lochtefeld opens his first FlowRider park in Shilitterbahn Water Park in New Braunfels, Texas. By 2000 there were 25 FlowRider parks all around the world.
1997: Kelly Slater wins first annual Typhoon Lagoon contest.
1997: The Sunway Bandar wave pool opens in Malaysia, featuring record-breaking seven foot swells.
2009: World’s first surf park scheduled to open in Orlando, Florida.
