The Grom Project

Cutting-edge surf coaching team The Next Wave and Carlsbad-based nonprofit Grom Project unveil a fabulous Inside Edge event full of surprises and tools for young surfers looking to succeed in today’s cut-throat world of competitive surfing.

The premiere event will be held at Wavehouse in Mission Beach. The afternoon’s schedule is bursting with tips, tricks and insights into the surf world both in the water and out. Local experts will lead various activities to bring kids an afternoon of education, entertainment and tools to make a difference in their own lives and communities. Topics include sponsor connection, interviewing, schedule planning and career management, eating and training for competition success and more.

Participants will enjoy an action-packed agenda that features video footage from various surf training sessions, footage from the latest Kids Who Rip DVD.  Event-goers will sweat through core strengthening exercises with local pro trainer Paul Hiniker and challenging their muscles and balancing abilities during a Yoga for Surfers mini-session with Peggy Hall.

Rewards for the kids’ hard work will come in the form of trivia game giveaways, tasty snacks and a variety of refreshing, healthful drinks.  The all-inclusive entry fee for the day’s events, including food, giveaways and workshops is just $10.  Space is limited so kids should arrive early and ready to rock!

“We’ve had a really great reception from coaches, team managers, kids and parents alike,” says Next Wave co-founder Brett Menke. “It’s exciting to see the progress that our athletes are making, both here and back in Australia.”

The Next Wave coaching staff utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and video analysis to maximize their time with surf students in San Diego County, Orange County and on the Gold Coast in Australia. They welcome both female and male athletes, longboarders and shortboarders, and those that are new to competition as well as those who have contest experience.

The Grom Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that entertains kids with meaningful messages, working through the sport and culture of surfing to provide positive role models, information and amazing images that inspire young minds.  Programs center around four topic areas:  health, education, community and the environment.
