Dane Ward

While San Clemente has the small wave training grounds to develop young surf star talent, making a name in the heavy surf of Oahu’s North Shore is not as easy.  But despite his Southern California training wheels, Dane Ward may be setting the new So Cal precedent following in the footsteps of other San Clemente alumni who have made solid statements on the Seven Mile Miracle; guys like Archy, Wardo, and the Beschens.  Putting in a performance worthy of taking notice, this past winter Dane spent time paying dues out at Pipeline, and it paid off big for him when the Monster Energy Pro came through town.  Dane impressed quite a few jaded locals and upset a few hometown heroes on his way to a quarterfinal finish in the event, where he also tied for the second-highest wave score in the entire event.  Not your average stats from a So Cal grom, but definitely worth paying attention to. With some solid WQS results already under his belt, one result coming in one of the hardest events of the year, this kid might just have to go straight to the big leagues.
