Ken “Skindog” Collins, Winner Billabong XXL Ride of the Year

Over the last few years Ken “Skindog” Collins has reinvented himself as a lunatic big wave hell-man, and re-injected his surf career with a healthy shot of adrenaline. Skindog has seen his fair share of heavy water accolades lately, including a historic first ever tow in session at Cortes Bank, and most recently a win for ride of the year at the 2007 Billabong XXL awards for his Puerto Escondido death pit.
A-List BFF: Laird, Laird’s a gnarly guy. Skindog’s a gnarly guy. I’m sure they’d get along.
Big Corpo Connection: Volcom lifer, and Volcom’s NorCal sales rep.
Arch Rival: Jet ski mechanical failures, water in the gas, flat spells, summertime
Great Hits: Skindog was part of the original Cortes assault, a day that opened all of our eyes to new possibilities.
Master of This Domain: The Lane, Mavs, Cortes Bank, Puerto Escondido.
Career Lowlight: Near death experience at Jaws a few years back.
Bling Factor: 55 large for one wave, enough said.
Red Carpet Moment: 2007 XXL Awards – hear your name called, slap the Volcom stone on the podium, make a speech, hug the pretty lady holding the check, raise the check, soak in the photo op, and head to the after party.
Evidence of Aquatic Prowess: High man on the totem pole at Santa Cruz’s gladiator pit, The Lane. Maxed out Mav’s sessions. And Cortes bank at 60 feet.
California Roots: Santa Cruz born and bred.
