Nick Rozsa

When I first saw this kid surf, during the NSL GAME California Cup event in Oceanside, he was on a Ventura Pelicanos Team that had a roster stacked with names like Curren, Curran, Malloy, and Reynolds.  The then “kid I’d never heard of” went out and waxed everybody, posting one of the highest scoring waves of the day, and made sure everyone would remember his name. Then, Nick Rozsa surfed like a man trapped in a boy’s body, with incredibly smooth flow linking his explosive turns together. Slowly he’s grown into his frame and become even more of a mature and polished surfer.
Nowadays, moving from the valley to the coast at 12 years old would be considered a late start to get into the incredibly competitive world of professional surfing, where kids are being groomed at the tender age of five for future stardom. “When I first moved I wasn’t that into surfing, but then I got to watch Timmy Curran surf right out front everyday, and everything changed,” Rozsa said. “I was so stoked to see one of the best surfers in the world right in front of me; it was inspiring.” With surfers like the Currans and Malloys to model his surfing after, Rozsa used their success as a motivating factor. “I saw what these guys were doing and I just wanted the same lifestyle they had,” Rozsa said. “I am still learning every time I surf a comp.” This humble talent is focused on competition and looks forward to having a successful year next year on the WQS while continuing to develop his skills and spend more time towing in bigger waves.
