Nat Young

Nat Young just goes surfing.  He doesn’t think about the fact that a legendary, world champion surfer shares his name, or that he regularly earns his waves amongst one of the heaviest crews of local regulators, because none of that matters when you’re a stoked grom.  Life is too good -- and he’s just stoked to go surfing everyday. He wants to make it to the WCT, so he knows that he will have to do well in some Pro Junior Events and then duplicate that success on the WQS, but right now he’s focused on keeping up on schoolwork while away for photo trips and contests. Young scored on a recent Indo trip -- on a boat for 19 days -- and plans to go to Oregon with the Nike team soon, then head off to Virginia and New Jersey for some Pro Juniors.  When you’re a stoked grom with the kind of schedule he does, you don’t have time to think about much else.  Training in the gladiator pit at The Lane everyday and sharing the namesake of a great surfing champion doesn’t seem to register as anything more than part of his daily routine. Nat Young’s biggest challenge as a professional surfer may be something that isn’t self-imposed at all – to live up to all that hype.
