Hunter Lysaught

Name: Hunter Lysaught
Age: 17
Hometown: La Jolla
Spot: La Jolla Reefs, Scripps
Sponsors: Split, Oakley, Chris Diercks Shapes, Salterwater.com
Board(s): 5’10" x 21/8” x 181/4” thumb tail.
Teacher: My older brother took me out when I was younger. He pretty much inspired me to surf.
Travel: I went to El Salvador about two months ago. The waves were mental. The whole
time I was just stoked on surfing.  Definitely some of the most fun waves I’ve ever surfed.
Favorite experience: When I was five years old my pops took me out on his longboard. He pushed me into the waves. I just rode the wave at first, then I tried to do a cutback
and fell. From then on I loved surfing and just gave it everything I had.
Favorite ‘CTer: It’s between Andy and Mick.
Style comparison: If I had to choose one, it would probably be Deano.
Competition: I competed in the NSSA Southwest Explorer division and was ranked 16th. I placed 4th in one final and made the quarters and semis consistently. I also competed
in the Sun Diego Matix Series and placed 4th and 2nd in the last two events.
What aspect of surfing is most important to you? Every aspect of surfing is important. If you can’t free surf, well, then you probably can’t do that well in contests. If you don’t do well in contests, you won’t be able to travel. I think every aspect of surfing is important
because I want to be a successful surfer.
“In Central America on our trip we surfed all right-handers. He was the only goofy-footer on our trip and he was doing the biggest backside hooks under the lip. He was really pushing the level and making us regular-footers want to surf backside… And when he pukes, he gets really nervous and wants to go to bed.” - Pete Cuffaro, pro surfer/party boy
