Buy A Better Future

Some of you reading this may already be participating in helping to protect our oceans. Your participation may be in the form of donating money. Or maybe it’s your time, helping to clean up your favorite beach. Either way, you're doing something good so keep it up. But there's always room to do a just a little more.
Wouldn't it be great if every time you bought something you were contributing to preserve the environment? I'm sure you've heard about organic t-shirts and other items made from recycled materials, but it may be a while before some of our favorite items are environmentally friendly. But now there's an easy alternative solution that enables us to make a difference when it comes to our oceans and coastlines.
As consumers we have a conscious ability to make a difference with every purchase that we make. After all, everything we own defines who we are and what we stand for. What we wear and what we use is an advertisement to others -- some positive, some neutral, some cool and some not so cool.
That's where project BLUE comes in. Billabong, DAKINE, Electric, Nixon, O'Neill and Reef have joined together to launch a campaign that will allow you to be directly involved supporting the efforts of Surfrider Foundation to protect our oceans, waves and beaches. Each of these brands has signed on to introduce great products like boardshorts, t-shirts, backpacks, sunglasses, sandals and watches. From the sale of each of these products, two dollars will go to support Surfrider Foundation and their efforts to protect our coastlines.
By purchasing project BLUE products, you're directly helping the environment. Imagine that! And you didn't have to do anything accept make a conscious choice. The goal is to raise over a million dollars over the next three years. With this new initiative we all have another way of making a difference along our coastlines.
It's not always easy to protect something you love, but we're all in this together and we need to approach this issue from every angle that we can. We'll need every surfer, surf shop and brand all working together to preserve one of our greatest natural resources, the ocean.
As a consumer you can use your buying power to make substantially better choices on a scale where you control your impact and the mark you leave. Make conscious decisions in your life. The math is pretty easy – you buy BLUE and your beach benefits.
