A third generation of photographer, Fonyat’s recent work behind the lens has focused squarely on surfing. Now working in the SurfShot offices under Photo Editor Jon Steele, Fonyat concedes the experience has helped kick start his young career and affected his perspective and approach to surf photography. “Being out in the water at first light on a cold, fall morning as the offshores start to pick up and traveling are my favorite parts of shooting photos,” Fonyat said. “California can produce the best colors, the best lineups, and has a scary amount of talent. Considering how close we are from Mexico and other in-state spots, SoCal is a pretty ideal place to live.”
